Portrait of HM King Rama V
Mancha Khiri, a unique historical town, has an illustrious history. Changwang Eak Phraya Phreut-thi-khun Tha-na-chet, the famous warlord whose golden statue is situated in this town, protected the border of Kingdom of Siam for more than a century. HM King Rama V. has appointed this warlord of Mancha Khiri to the highest level of Chamberlain of The Siam Royal Court. During the rule of HM King Rama V, there were 27 persons who were so appointed to the position of “the Highest Level of Chamberlain” in the kingdom.
First Governor of Mancha Khiri (2424-2439)
Changwang Eak Phraya Phreut-thi-khun Tha-na-chet was also the first governor of Mancha Khiri during the time of King Rama V. His second title was “Phraya” or “Lord”.
The Supreme Chamberlain Lord Phreut-thi-khun Tha-na-chettha was highly skilled as an urban designer.
The ancient roads were built between the hills and a natural reservoir. The roads were built in the same direction as the water flowed from the hills. Though the roads are near a natural water reservoir (which is a part of main river of northeast region), the roads slope about 15 degrees so that they do not flood during the rainy season. But the area has become wetlands, a bio-diverse area which provides a home for birds, fish and water plants. Because of the reservoir, there is enough water for growing crops in the dry season.
People built this golden monument to pay respect to and memorialize The Supreme Chamberlain Lord Phreut-thi-khun Tha-na-chet as the person who established the town as a border town to protect the Kingdom of Siam.
